How are words counted?

A word is any group of characters separated by a space, a tab or a line break. Hyphenated words like "well-known" count as one word, and numbers count as words too.

How is the reading time calculated?

Reading time is based on an average reading speed of 200 words per minute, rounded up to the next minute.

Is my text stored or sent to a server?

No. Everything is counted directly in your browser. Your text is never saved or sent anywhere.

What is the difference between characters with and without spaces?

Characters with spaces count every letter, number, punctuation mark, space and line break. Characters without spaces ignore all spaces, tabs and line breaks.

How many words is a page?

It depends on the font and spacing, but a single spaced page usually holds around 500 words, and a double spaced page around 250 words.
